Listing responsibilities of the branch of government and discussing why it is important. Student did not list any responsibilities and could not discuss with the class why their branch of government is important. Students were able to list 1 responsibility of their branch of government and were able to correctly discuss the importance of it with the class. Students were able to list at least 2 responsibilites of their branch of government and were able to correctly disucss the importance of it with the class. Students were able to list 3 or more responsibilities of their branch of government and were able to correctly discuss the importnace of it with the class.
Passing the law Students were not able to pass a law for the classroom at any level of government Students were able to pass the law through the judicial branch of government Students were able to pass the law up to the executive branch but if veto'd, could not figure out how to have the executive branch pass it. Students were able to pass a law for the classroom through all branches of government appropiately.
Checks and Balances Students did not show their understanding of a checks and balance system. Students were able to somewhat show their understanding of checks and balances but were missing some key parts on why it is important Students were able to show that they understood the system of checks and balances but could not identify the correct sequence in which the system works Students were able to show their full understanding of checks and balances and were able to identify the correct sequence in which the system works
Writing a class constitution Students could not write an adequate class constitution. Students were able to somewhat write a constituion for the class but could not agree as a whole on what should be put in place. Students were able to write a class constituion but failed to sign it. Students were able to write a class constituion together and each student signed the constituion showing that they will follow it.
